Pitch #2445
Midland. Veteran music publisher with multiple cuts on major artists is listening to songs for Big Machine recording artist Midland. The group members are Mark Wystrach (lead vocals, guitar), Jess Carson (guitar, vocals), and Cameron Duddy (bass guitar, vocals). Seeking: Mid to Uptempo only. Great harmonies. Thematically, keep it positive. Fresh ideas. Not looking for one-on-one love songs - it needs to be something three guys can sing. Consider a third-person story song or a first-person song with strong lyrics dealing with a unique and interesting subject. Nothing about any abuse, mental illness, military, or wearing a badge. Musically, songs that tend toward Country but must have changes in the chord structure and melody that lifts up. They want songs their audience can sing along to and really get into. Before pitching, reference their vocal quality and vibe by listening to their song "Drinkin' Problem."
AI Guidelines: Based on the current copyright report (https://songu.com/FAQAI.aspx), this guest will only consider songs with entirely human-authored lyrics and human-authored melodies. AI may be used for demo production, but any such use of AI must be disclosed.
In general, here is what this pitch guest is seeking in every song that is pitched to them:
-- Fresh ideas and interesting titles; lead directly to the title in a strong way to make the title stand out.
-- Get your first verse set up much quicker to grab the listener within the first 30 seconds from when it starts. Most of the time, I don't even get to the second verse if the first verse does not draw me in. Your song may not need a pre-chorus. Try to get to the point and make it pay off quickly.
-- Before pitching, please do your research. Really listen to the artist and see what kind of songs they like to cut. Figure out what they like, how they sing, and what songs they lean toward.
-- Please read the description/brief and submit only what we request. For example, if we're looking for uptempo, only send uptempo. If we mention "no drinking songs", then please don't send a drinking song.
-- Read a lot for new ideas and stories. For Country songs, understand the writing of great writers like Shane McAnally, Michael Hardy, Don Schlitz, Bobby Braddock, Lori McKenna.
Pitch Follow-up: If this guest expresses interest in your song, they will pitch it with the understanding that you will be asked to sign a single song agreement with the publishing company if there is interest in the song.
Pitch #2450
Maddye Trew. NEW! QUICK PITCH! The next in-person meeting is on Friday, April 23rd. A Street Pitch guest and music publisher who has already generated income for SongU members for indie artist Maddye Trew. Every song submitted will be listened to that is pitched by this deadline. Maddye is hungry for a hit party song, so bring it on. I can't wait to hear what you've got!
Themes: Seeking fun, honky-tonk party songs. Songs about celebrating the weekend, songs full of life, lots of energy and excitement. Songs that will have everyone dancing. Think about being with best friends or someone special and sharing those happy, exhilarating, and unforgettable moments together - the good times you'll look back on. Drinking songs okay. But do not submit songs that mention smoke or smoking, or songs that have any reference to weed. She also doesn't want any "bar fight" type songs.
References: SOUTHBOUND by Carrie Underwood, DRINK IN MY HAND BY Eric Church, BAREFOOT BLUEJEAN NIGHT by Jake Owen, GOOD TIME by Alan Jackson, WATERMELON CRAWL by Tracy Byrd, I LIKE IT I LOVE IT by Tim McGraw, DANCIN' IN THE COUNTRY by Tyler Hubbard and ALL JACKED UP and HERE FOR THE PARTY by Gretchen Wilson.
Here's a follow-up on last pitch for this artist: I'd like to thank all of you great SongU songwriters who recently pitched "heartbreak songs" for the Maddye Trew project (Quick Pitch #2449). Each and every one of you really brought the heat with your excellent pitches. This in-person pitch meeting resulted in 26 copies of songs being taken, and 1 song being put on HOLD. The songs Maddye took copies of are still in the running and still very much under consideration for her project. Maddye and her team are getting together to review them. So stay tuned!
