The music was originally written for a collaboration on a SongU challenge; however, the lyricist left SongU before we could complete the song. I then wrote my own lyrics and submitted the song to a feedback session conducted by Alan Roy Scott. Alan made a few adjustments to the structure of the music and said that the lyrics needed a re-write. I submitted the revised song to another session and Alan said he was now happy with the music (indeed, he said that the chorus kept going around in his head) but he felt that the lyrics still needed work; in fact, he felt that I should make it a children's song. I saw a pitch for a children's choir on SongU and specifically re-wrote the lyrics for this pitch. I suspect that the choir in question was really an adolescent choir (or perhaps they just didn't like the song) but I never heard from them. I liked the idea of a song about joining a children's choir but I had to re-write verse 2 which was specific to the pitch. What you hear is the song that was submitted for the pitch but a more generic lyric for verse 2 is included in parenthesis in the lyrics section.

Lyrics

RAINBOW'S END

Verse 1
I can’t imagine life without a rainbow
Something to tell you things can turn around
Showing that the rain clouds are on hold
With colours that lead to gold

Verse 2
Building a vision, ten years as a mission
This choral rainbow caused the sun to shine
Sensing all the love that it would bring
When children begin to sing

[Alternative Verse 2
School's not my forte, I was never sporty
My only talent is that I can sing
Saw the advert for the children's choir
That filled me with new desire]

Chorus
I’ve heard you cannot find the end of a rainbow
That story isn’t true, if you know what to do
You'll find your pot of gold so I recommend
That you search for your rainbow’s end

Verse 3
Found inspiration, sent the application
My wish was granted and I joined the choir
Every time we sing it brings me joy
The same for each girl and boy

Chorus
I’ve heard you cannot find the end of a rainbow
That story isn’t true, if you know what to do
You'll find your pot of gold so I recommend
That you search for your rainbow’s end

Bridge
That fateful day I found out what it took
To realise your dreams you need to look

Chorus
I’ve heard you cannot find the end of a rainbow
That story isn’t true, if you know what to do
You'll find your pot of gold and I recommend
That you search for your rainbow’s end
You’ve got to search for your rainbow’s end
