I’ve got this neighbor ‘cross the street, I’m not sure he ever sleeps
I swear he’s at the office morning, noon and night
He’s always buying brand new things – a faster boat, a wider screen
He might enjoy them if he ever had the time

Guess you could say that he’s obsessed
With some notion of success
All I know for sure is he ain’t found it yet…

It’s like a dog chasin’ a car; what would he do if he caught it
When you get what you wanted, it ain’t what you think
It’s like we’re all hard-wired, always after those spinnin’ tires

It makes me think of my in-laws; they always play the Powerball
The same six numbers for the last eleven years
At 9:59 twice a week, they’re parked in front of that TV
Waiting for the moment all their troubles disappear

I’d shake my head and think they’re fools
Those crazy dreams ain’t coming true
‘Cept when that jackpot’s big, I buy a ticket too
