I have always been fascinated by the creative process and how individuals who are creative may think differently than people who are more logic driven. Oftentimes in talking to creative individuals, they will describe some of their most treasured creative works as having come in a dream state, or as an altered state of consciousness that is inexplicable. It can be likened to a drive that must be satisfied, and not ignored. Creativity in this case becomes like its own entity that is an energy force that not everyone experiences and in the same way. Since I was a small child I would experience periods of creativity and frequently thoughts and images would arrive when I was trying to fall asleep. I found that I couldn't sleep until wrote it down, for fear that I would lose the information or images. I learned to await for these episodes or periods of creativity, and it would either wake me or keep me from falling asleep. Sometimes this would occur in a quiet way but other times it would be like a flood of emotions, thoughts, and images that were extremely powerful. I generally felt that whether I tried to ignore it or not, this creative process would happen, and so I always welcomed it as a gift that was a wonderful surprise. It is truly wonderful to be able to escape into the creative world that can be quite private and personal. The many ways in which people can express creativity and the emotions that surround it as a common experience and it is admirable. It is like a beautiful dance that ebbs and flows and can be wonderful to watch in others. Inspiration can be captivating, and the energy can not always be captured. It is not uncommon for creative individuals to work themselves into exhaustion in pursuit of the creative act. She is elusive, and inspiration will always keep me spellbound.
