Backstory:
I never wrote a song starting with the chorus and I thought this song was well suited for such a treatment. My hope is that a very strong vocal country group would consider doing it.
Domestic abuse is a chronic problem everywhere. This was my attempt to localize it.
Lyrics:
HE’LL NEVER LET HER GO
She can’t get away
He’ll never let her go
She has a man who has to control
He’ll never let her go
She met him at the county fair
On an August afternoon
She was smitten by his charm
He promised her the stars and the moon
He bought her cotton candy
They pitched pennies in a wishing well
She didn’t know what she was getting into
She was headed for a lifetime of hell
She can’t get away
He’ll never let her go
She has a man who has to control
He’ll never let her go
They got married in Wisconsin
On a cold and wintry night
Life was good for about a year
Then all they ever did was fight
One day without a warning
She felt the fury of his rage
Now she can’t look him in the eyes
She wants to run but she’s too afraid
She can’t get away
He’ll never let her go
She has a man who has to control
He’ll never let her go
How could love be so blind
There were signs along the way
She really didn’t want to see them
She was praying things would work out ok
He’ll never let her go
