    Backstory:
Many years ago I saw a picture of a young woman on a morgue table. She had been pulled from the river after drowning herself. From time to time, over the years, I would think of her and wonder what would cause such a beautiful girl to commit suicide. Why? She had so much to live for. I tried to answer those questions, for me at least, in this song.

    Lyrics:

A Simple Song Phil Schneider (ASCAP) © 2007 Dm A7 Dm 1. A song of unrequited love sung to a simple melody, A7 Dm Seductive words of tenderness that set her passions free. Gm7 Dm A smile, a touch, a caress; the way it made her feel. A7 Dm The things it made her do that let her think that love was real. 2. The country walks in Spring; as arm in arm they’d go. The dancing until dawn as they held each other close. They’d dine by candle light, faces aglow with flame. Intoxicating wine and breath. Who would suspect this love to wane? Gm7 C7 F Bridge: But the verses turned to sadness; it became a song she could not bear. Gm7 C7 A7 Unanswered calls, missed rendezvous, long nights filled with tears. 3. A lonely bridge at night; a lover in the rain. She steps up to the rail, never to love again. The water swirls below; it beckons through the rain. It was just a foolish song to cause her all this pain.
