Dainty Things

Mamma passed last year and Papa took it rough.
For months he just moped around and wouldn’t do very much.
Then he cheered up; started to get better
That’s when I knew he was gonna recover.
He started goin’ ‘round visitin’ his friends.
Movin'' on with life; getting’ it together again.
Next thing I know he’s goin’ out nites.
Said it was just to get him-self a bite.
Then this girl showed up hangin’ ‘round the place.
Every now an’ then I’d see her give him a peck on the face.
He’d pat her on the rump; she’d call him “honey”.
First thing I thought she was after his money.
But Pa didn’t have any, that I knew.
And you could see things was gittin’ tight between the two.
On a visit one day I had to use the john
An’ there for me to gaze upon were
Chorus: Dainty things hangin’ in the shower.
Dainty things Mamma would never wear!
Dainty things, all filmy an’ stringy an’ tiny.
It sure is strange when your Pa’s goin ‘round with some young girl!
I figgered I’d have to have a talk with the ole man;
Go over the facts of life with him again.
When I did, he just smiled an’ said,
“Son, don’t get too many ideas in your head.
Things is different now from when I married your Ma,
With chat-rooms, internet dating, an’ all.
Yes, I’m sowin’ some wild oats, but with circumspection.
An’ don’t worry, son, I’m usin’ protection! Chorus
