Backstory:
I wrote this based on an experience my mom and my uncle experienced. It is about men coming home from wars with PTSD.
My collaborator Alistair was kind enough to make some structural changes, as well as sing it, and put music to it.
Do you notice any major problems with this, and do you feel it would work for either a movie or TV?
Thanks Alan!
Lyrics:
Some Wars (Are Never Won)
Length of song- 4 min 5 sec
V1
When the war was over, our heroes headed home
We ran to meet our daddies; leapt into their arms
But daddies can be scary with a pistol in their hand
Their eyes ablaze with flashbacks of blood pools in the sand
while whispering of horrors we could never understand
(Understand)
V2
My Daddy may be broken, but we've been broken too
My mother’s spirit’s broken due to what he put us through
He may have done his duty, but our duty’s never done
Although the war is over, some wars are never won
Although the war is over, for some it rages on
(And on)
Chorus
The war rages on in our minds and in our homes
Men, women, children - private battle zones
Praying for an armistice - a peace that never comes
Although the war is over, some wars are never won
V3
A man who feels he’s lost control controls the things he can
We've come to know his anger and the sting of his right hand
As we grew, we children knew we had to get away
Abandon those who loved us, condemning them to stay
Deserters don’t deserve the love of those whom they betray
(Betray)
Chorus
The war rages on in our minds and in our homes
Men, women, children - private battle zones
Praying for an armistice - a peace that never comes
Although the war is over, some wars are never won
