KNIFE AND GUN
I was three days on the run
Needing shelter from the sun
A deserted creek or so it seemed
Till I turned to look upstream
Miles of hair colored midnight black
Cool water running down her back
Piled on the bank was all she owned
Must have thought she was alone
Like a naked angel from above
All except for that knife and gun
A smarter man would back away
But my legs would not obey
Then she turned and we were eye to eye
She grabbed the gun strapped to her thigh
It’s hard to breathe staring straight down a 45
Not knowing how long I’d survive
Sun shooting sparks off her blade
But I didn’t feel afraid
Like a naked angel from above
All except for that knife and gun
In that moment in each other’s eyes
We knew we were two of a kind
We rode together for a while
Only one time did she smile
She carried quite a burden in her soul
I could not help her unload
Sometime in the night she reached for my hand
She said I was a good man
But she had to settle a score
Don’t think about me anymore
Like a naked angel from above
All except for that knife and gun
