I did this with a collaborator I have worked with several times and for several years, Colin Ward, who performs often in Florida and actually has opened for Jimmy Buffet.
I wrote a version of this lyric last year and asked Colin if he would like to collab on it. We altered some lyric here and there to help it fit melody better.
We have had mixed reviews on it taking it to the Muses Muse and Just Plain Folks songwriters sites for critiques.
Some hate the word vacay...and feel in the worst way makes a positive song sound not positive but some are fine with the word and phrase. I know how I feel about it, Colin is on the fence. He asks how does the word Vacay sound to you? Hip or weird? Appealing to a person with the funds to go on vacation or too Valley Girl?
How does the expression "in the worst way" sound to you? Inconsistent with the message, or normal, everyday speech?
We are open to thoughts on the entire song, lyrically, musically ,etc
Thanks
Lyrics:
I Need a Getaway Right Away
Car horns and telephones have my ears ringing
Every day headaches are banging on my door
Gonna grab my suitcase, shades and sunscreen
Gas up the car and head to the shore
Chorus
Need a getaway, right away,
R and R, sun and waves
Need a getaway, right away,
Wanna dance to a beach band
With my honey
I need a break,
Got to get away
Rep Intro
Palm trees and warm breezes get my soul singing
My sweetheart working on a deep dark tan
A drink with an umbrella, get ice cubes clinking
Start a summer read, plant my toes in the sand
Chorus
Bridge
give me…
golden oldies holding hands
‘cause they're glad to be together
young lovers kissing sweet
‘like they've been in love forever
ferris wheels, seagull squeals, fish taco stands
toddlers building castles with tiny little hands
Oh man…..
repeat chorus
Tag
Ain't no doubt about it
Life ain't fun without it
Gotta slow down the pace
Get out of the rat race
And get away
