Backstory:
This was Adam's idea. He brought me the first verse and the refrain and he already had a wonderful catchy melody going. I tweaked one line in his verse and then I mostly wrote the second verse and bridge. It was a fun write - wish they were all this much fun!
Lyrics:
You Feel Like Summertime
(Claire Ulanoff/Adam Avery)
Verse 1
There’s a frost still on the windshield when you drop me off at work
With a thermos full of coffee and a goodbye kiss
Well I forgot my gloves again, shoulda wore an extra shirt
I’m still tryin’ to get used to how cold Denver is (but)
Pre-Chorus 1
I don’t miss the sun down south
What we once called home
Cause when I hold you in my arms girl, all I know (is)
You feel like summertime
Yeah, you feel like summertime
Verse 2
When we moved here in September the trees were red & gold
Guess I didn’t think bout how the winter winds would freeze
Now every night we’re rubbin’ noses, kissin’ like eskimos
I could learn to love a blizzard, long as you’re with me
Pre-Chorus 2
Those wooly socks you bought me
We can give ‘em to someone else
Cause when it’s 2 below I just think of you ‘n I melt (cause)
You feel like summertime
Yeah, you feel like summertime
Bridge
Your eyes are like the ocean n’ they sparkle when you laugh
You’re like picnic suppers after church, blankets on the grass
Layin’ down to watch the fireflies dance
Outro
You feel like summertime
Like a warm honey wine
Sweet tea on a Saturday night
Yeah, you feel like summertime
