Backstory:
Heard too many stories on Facebook and elsewhere about old soldiers being homeless and such. It bothers me.
Lyrics:
Living in their yesterday
vivid pictures fill their minds
Withered down to old and gray
but they’re not the quitting kinds
Some wear tattered clothes
and are homeless, destitute
There’s so many of those
that the people persecute
Old Soldiers
the ones who gave
Freedom rode their shoulders
brave was their name
They risked it all for us
and they never made a fuss
But the battle’s never over
For old soldiers
Wounds and pains are haunting
they’ve seen and lost a lot
Their hearts and minds just wanting
what most of us have got
A place to live a shattered life
someone to hold them close
More than merely to survive
a home to call their own
(Repeat chorus)
When I see hats of veterans
I salute them; every one
Thank them for their service
for my freedom that they won
(Repeat chorus)
No the battle’s never over
for old soldiers.
