Backstory:
I was looking for information from a former co-writer about a female vocalist we had used years ago for a demo. My former co-writer replied by email that she didn't have info about her and then said she's in the wind. Having never heard that expression before I replied "that's a good song title". Then I developed a story around the title.
Lyrics:
She's in the Wind
Saw her work her magic
At a Broadway Street cafe
Her fingers went up and down the frets
Of her ukulele
Sang her angst ridden songs
Tender melodies
She reminded me a little bit
Of Alicia Keyes
Stopped back every Friday night
To hear her brand new tunes
Sat in the same red leather booth
In that smokey barroom
She wowed the crowd with her artistry
Made us laugh, made us cry
Never thought I'd see the day
When her music died
Nobody knew why she skipped town
Checked out of the Motor Inn
Didn't leave an address
Or her next of kin
Doubt that she'll be gone for long
She's just out there wandering
She's in the wind
Beneath her stage persona
Caught a hint of a tortured soul
Maybe she needed to break out
And regain some control
CHORUS
She's in the wind
She's in the wind
She's in the wind
