My father left us when I was a young boy. I had a very painful life never having had him in it. And when I had the chance just before he died, I was just and angry man. I wish I had done better.

Lyrics

The Man I Never Knew

(Verse)
Just a couple faded memories,
of some times so long ago.
But that’s all that’s left for me,
from the father that I know.

Heard he left us for a better life,
seems he needed to be free.
Two lost children and a heart-broke wife,
that’s just, how it was to be.

(Chorus)
Here I go,
I’m thinking back again.
Never know,
what happened way back then.
Never be,
a chance to mend the fence.
Dad is gone;
the truth is too.
Both passed on;
with the man I never knew.

(Verse)
A short while before he died,
we wrote a couple times.
Tried to set anger aside,
but I wasn’t very kind.

Was a child that grew up mad,
really hurting deep inside.
Thought so much about my dad,
feelings that I had to hide.

(Repeat Cho)

(Bridge)
It’s too late to change things now,
though I really wish I could.
I forgive him, I’ve learned how,
and I’ve learned it, that I should.

(Repeat Cho)

(Tag)
Yeah, both passed on with the man I never knew.
