When I was a small I didn’t know where my next meal would come from
I don’t remember being kissed, held or hugged by anyone
I never had a daddy to throw me up in the air with laughter
I don’t remember mama rocking me to sleep with a lullaby
I was pretty scared laying in a crib and just cried

Somehow that frighten little girl

She reminds me the world isn’t safe 
At least in her innocence
I try my best to calm her fears
She feels no one cares
I hold her in my arms when the tears started to pour

I grew up fast in world that tried to hold me down
Had to be an adult at twelve years old
Mama spent her life in deep depression 
The men she lived with left when things got hard
My childhood was lost because I had to take charge
