Backstory:
Family song, some people love the simple life. Song critic liked it, but didn't understand "Cornbread on the Table". He asked, "is that all they eat?" Thinking outside the box here, it's a Southern staple and a better way to say, "food on the table". I didn't think it was that hard to understand. I have other family songs, "Firmly Rooted", "Second Hand and Hand Me Downs", She's Like a Song of Inspiration".

Lyrics:
Cornbread on the Table
Verse
A buddy called from New York
it seems he’s doing pretty well
sells stocks, makes lots of money
every day he hears the bell
Another friend went to LA
making money hand over fist
Spends half his life in traffic
says he’ll make it in the show biz
Pre-chorus
They joke and say I missed out
I just laugh and play along
We all took a different route
who’s to say who’s right or wrong
Chorus
I work until I’m not able
I’ve got a roof over my head
there’s cornbread on the
table sleeping in warm beds
I’ve got all the love I’ll ever need
my peace of mind is free
as long as there’s cornbread on the table
That’s good enough for me
Verse
I never left this small town
married the home coming queen
mountains out my back door
the grass is always green
The wife woks 9 to 5
kids are playing ball
smiles are always big
traffic jams are small
Chorus
I work until I’m not able
I’ve got a roof over my head
there’s cornbread on the
table sleeping in warm beds
I’ve got all the love I’ll ever need
my peace of mind is free
as long as there’s cornbread on the table
That’s good enough for me
Verse
I’ll take the life that I’m living
it must be crowded at the top
I’ll go the path that I’ve been given
be thankful for what we’ve got
Bridge
Cruise for ice cream on Friday
weekends at the lake
hear the gospel on Sunday
Chicken fried, and cornbread baked
You keep saying that I missed out
well brother I was blessed by fate
Chorus
I work until I’m not able
I’ve got a roof over my head
there’s cornbread on the
table sleeping in warm beds
I’ve got all the love I’ll ever need
my peace of mind is free
as long as there’s cornbread on the table
That’s good enough for me
