The scent of the Laurel mingles with pines
He runs rutted creek beds imagining lines
On shiny black asphalt with crowds uncontrolled
Cheering the victor, Chasing the Gold

His heroes were runners he watched on tv
In faraway places, he dreamed he can be
With all of the longing, his young heart could hold
He started his journey, Chasing the Gold

Will he ever stand with his heart in his hand
Will his anthem bring tears to his eyes
When he’s tested and tried
Will he feel that pride
As behind him The Stars and Stripes rise

The odds are against him a million to one
But the wind is behind him
He’ll continue his run
One small window of time
Not too soon, not too old
Once every four summers, Chasing the Gold!
