I had a terrible tummy ache one night, couldn't sleep. So, even though I was in pain, I sought to escape it by picking up my guitar. The first lines of the song are the ones I immediately came up with ("Sleep, I wish I could sleep/But I got a tummy ache, so I really can't sleep"). I finished the song a day or two later. What I didn't know at the time was that I hadn't been suffering from a tummy ache after all. It wasn't too long after that on another night, at 4 am, I went to the emergency room for what I thought was a heart attack. It turns out, my gall bladder had been the problem all along. Thankfully, we parted ways the next day.
