Backstory:
I saw an article in the USA Today about a guy magnet fishing from a bridge over the Detroit River and he pulled up some dog tags of a WWII vet. I just used the idea to create a song and adapted to the Vietnam War.
Lyrics:
FOUND AGAIN
I threw a magnet in the river
Tied to a fishing line
I've been doing this for several years
To see what I could find
Got some rusty scrap metal
And lots of old tin cans
Today I pulled up something
May take awhile to understand
It was a semi shiny object
On a jumbled tangled chain
Couldn't make out what it was for sure
Till I wiped away the stain
Reached in my back pocket
Pulled out a well worn cloth rag
Turns out my discovery
Was a GI's dog tag
And the name on the tag read Alan J. Baum
Served his country in Vietnam
From the bottom of the river
To the palm of my hand
Once lost now found again
Back home on my computer
Started searching for his name
Found out he died some years ago
Oh what a shame
Learned he had a daughter living
In the town next to me
I called her up and told her
I found her daddy's legacy
Drove over to her house
Knocked on the front door
A woman came to greet me
Whom I'd never seen before
I pulled out her daddy's dog tags
Gently placed them in her hand
She looked at them and shed a tear
Seemed like it was God's plan
From the bottom of the river
To the palm of my hand
Alan J. Baum
Has been found once again
REPEAT FOURTH VERSE
From the bottom of the river
To the palm of my hand
Alan J. Baum
Has been found once again
