Backstory:
They know they have to go their separate ways, but it is difficult to let go. Music by Jim Kelly (UK) & Raul Barba (Argentian), Lyrics by Clare Steffen (US), Vocals by Jim Kelly & Clare Steffen. Music Production by Raul Barba as a part of the Round The Glob project. The lyric (mostly the chorus) came from a poem I wrote when I was 13 and leaving one school to start another. We were given an assignment to write a poem, and some of the lyrics have stayed with me all these years, and I just changed the situation to apply it to a song about a couple going their separate ways.
Lyrics:
V1
It's the middle of the night
I'm still not sleeping
Something here ain't right
I can't stop thinking
Bridge
Funny isn't it, funny isn't it
So hard to admit
V2
I wish you didn't have to leave
Comfort is a stranger to me
It's natural to grieve
My eyes are open but I still can't see
Bridge
You can't change destiny
Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be
Chorus
Funny isn't it?
That we have to go our separate ways
To see what the future holds
Leave tomorrow behind, it'll be OK
Don't worry, a new life will unfold
Change takes time
You just can't push or force it
It might be a steep climb
But we don't need to feel desperate
V3
Ain't that the way that love goes
Just when you think you've got it all
There is a time we would have chosen
Just to stay together, now as I recall
Bridge
You can't dream your troubles away
The only thing I can think to say
Chorus
Funny isn't it?
That we have to go our separate ways
To see what the future holds
Leave tomorrow behind, it'll be OK
Don't worry, a new life will unfold
Change takes time
You just can't push or force it
It might be a steep climb
But we don't need to feel desperate
Outro'
Funny isn't it
Maybe we can both let go with love
Funny isn't it, funny isn't it
