Backstory:
The reference to "We see through a glass darkly," can be found in the First Epistle in Paul's letters to the Corinthians, in the New Testament. In the context of this song we are reminded that if we try to avoid truths that can be hard to face, our vision will be clouded and imperfect. We can go through life avoiding truth, and honesty. Sometimes we misunderstand the sensitive individuals who are brave enough to see past that which we fear and seek authenticity. Paul reminds us that in the next life, with God, we will be able to see that which is obscured or what we don't understand in the present life. Vocals and Lyrics by Clare Steffen (USA), Music and Music Production by Raul Barba (Argentina), as a part of the Round The Globe project.
Lyrics:
V1
They said I was too sensitive
And that my thoughts were too deep
Maybe they are insensitive
Or are walking through life half-asleep
Bridge
Unaware and afraid to feel
We see through a glass darkly
V2
Perhaps they can't see what I see
Emotional blindness works for them
Not great fans of honesty
They can be so quick to condemn
Pre-chorus
Sometimes I want to scream
We see through a glass darkly
Chorus
Push the boundaries of my mind
I might have to walk all alone
Truth may not always be so kind
But I can call my life my own
Refusing to see through a glass darkly
Post-chorus
We see through a glass darkly
I refuse to see through a glass darkly
We see through a glass darkly
We don't have to see through a glass darkly
Instrumental Bridge
V3
The more I seek to understand
The less they are understanding
Time is slipping through my hand
Distance between us is expanding
Pre-Chorus
Emotional blindness continues on
We see through a glass darkly
Chorus
Push the boundaries of my mind
I might have to walk all alone
Truth may not always be so kind
But I can call my life my own
Refusing to see through a glass darkly
Post-chorus
We see through a glass darkly
I refuse to see through a glass darkly
We see through a glass darkly
We don't have to see through a glass darkly
