Backstory:
I wrote this one after getting the idea for the hook from the auctioneer closing call for bids; going once, going twice, sold! It struck me that could also apply to some relationships.
Lyrics:
Through bitter tears she prayed, “Please help me Lord”
To face the truth and listen to my heart
She tried leaving him not once, but twice before
But never found the strength to get this far
There was nothing said – there was no goodbye
Just a look to say what they had known so long
She tried goin' once, she tried goin' twice
But this time she was goin' goin' gone
Twice before she let old feelings for him
Keep her on that train running out of track
Till she couldn’t bare to wake up one more morning
To another day of living in the past
There was nothing said – there was no goodbye
Just a look to say what they had known so long
She tried goin' once, she tried goin' twice
But this time she was goin' goin' gone
Neither one of them was lookin’ for a reason
Why she should stay or where to lay the blame
They just couldn’t make hearts feel what they weren’t feelin’
They just couldn’t make love burn where there’s no flame
There was nothing said – there was no goodbye
Just a look to say what they had known so long
She tried goin' once, she tried goin' twice
But this time she was goin'
This time she was goin'
This time she was goin' goin' gone
