Backstory:
This is about being a parent (for me) but it could also be about any relationship where you give your absolute all and then wonder- should I save a little for just me? I see my kids grow up and I want them to be good people and I want to teach them all the things- but in the end I need to let them grow into who they will be. So thats what this song means to me.
Lyrics:
When I love you does it mean that I will give you every piece of me,
Or, should I hide a little bit away?
In case I need to find that part of me again someday
When I love you, does it mean that you will need me like you did before,
Will I always be the one to hold your hand?
If you reach past me someday, I guess I’ll try to understand
The air is clear up here
The city lights they shine
I’ll show you everything I know but
You were meant to fly
I’ll show you everything but I know
You… were meant to fly
When I love you will you promise that you’ll follow your own voice
And listen closely when there’s so much noise around?
‘Cuz sometimes the truest words in life make hardly any sound
When I love you I will share your joy, I’ll feel your pain, I’ll cry your tears
But I know that I cannot control it all
I’m gonna need to find a way to let you go and let you fall
The air is clear up here
The city lights they shine
I’ll show you everything I know but
You were meant to fly
I’ll show you everything but I know
You… were meant to fly
When I love you does it mean that I will give you every piece of me
Or, should I hide a little bit away?
In case I need to find that part of me again someday
