    Backstory:
This is about that feeling when you lose someone- a breakup or other and it is just SOOO close to the surface but you have to go on and live your life. That the tears are lurking behind my eyes is how I have felt at times. This song came together in my head thinking about a particularly hard winter when I lost someone I loved. Again, doesnt have to be death- could be a breakup. But its about the human experience of feeling fragile and vulnerable and just trying to keep it together sometimes.

    Lyrics:

Pickin’ up coffee “How you doin’ today?” Acquaintance on the street “How you been?” Practiced smiles and breezy words I’m gettin’ by, but it still hurts Since you left, I’ve been weighted down Like I’m under water and I just might drown Like I’m carrying around a heavy load That breaks my back but I can’t let go Tears are lurking behind my eyes Tears are lurking but I don’t want to cry Too much to do, and people to see And I don’t want to show that part of me Tears are lurking, they follow me Everywhere I go, I’m never free Since you left, there’s a hole inside of me There’s a hole inside that no one else can see A face in a crowd up ahead of me Half a second and I’m stopped in my tracks I choke on my breath and my heart beats fast But I know it's not you, and the moment moves past Since you left, I’ve been weighted down Like I’m under water and I just might drown Like I’m carrying around a heavy load That breaks my back but I can’t let go Tears are lurking in the back of my eyes Tears are lurking, but I don’t want to cry Too much to do, and people to see And I don’t want to show that part of me Tears are lurking, they follow me Everywhere I go, I’m never free Since you left there’s a hole inside of me There’s a hole inside that no one else can see I’m just waiting ‘till I’m alone so I can cry But since you left that day, These tears have moved right in like they’re gonna stay
