Backstory:

I was "Built in the 70s" and so was the house I grew up in.  When we had to sell it- my brother and I started going through tons of pictures from our childhood and it all came flooding back. Some of the lines are specifically about the house I grew up in, but I think many of the lines resonate with others of this era.

Framed portraits line the hallway, awkward poses from each grade

TV in the basement, bean bags on the floor
Carpet in a shade of green that you can’t get no more
August supper on the back porch, way too hot to eat
Past 7 and its still light out, the crickets’ song so sweet

Stood tall when snow piled 6 feet high, kept cool under the trees
Hunkered down in howlin’ winds
Breathed in the sweet warm air of a summertime breeze

One bathroom in the upstairs hall, you're gonna have to wait your turn
The window sills are all scratched up,that dog will never learn
Rush out through the front door, catch the school bus driving past
Pencil marks on the kitchen wall, kids growin’ up too fast
