Backstory:
I wrote this song with Heather Morris. Heather came to me with the idea about writing a song about looking for a lasting relationship, and not just backseat promises.
Lyrics:
I thought it was love but it never lasted
When things got said in the heat of passion
That's not the kind I'm waiting for
It's gotta be something real, something more
Then backseat promises, the kind you make and then forget
I want a love that burns longer than an after cigarette
Someone who'll be there at dawn, who's in it for the long haul
Who means every word he says, not just backseat promises
Don't say you want more, than just this long weekend
Don't tell me you'll call, unless you really mean it
Cause unless you're dying to tell your friends
Everything about me baby all this is
Backseat promises, the kind you make and then forget
I want a love that burns longer than an after cigarette
Someone who'll be there at dawn, who's in it for the long haul
Who means every word he says, not just backseat promises
If mañana, your Tony Lamas, are still beside the bed
Maybe you might be, more than just skin deep, and mean everything you said
Not backseat promises, the kind you make and then forget
I want a love that burns longer than an after cigarette
Someone who'll be there at dawn, who's in it for the long haul
Who means every word he says, not just backseat promises
