Backstory:

I remember hearing a quote from The Parent Trap (1961) 
“You know, it's scary the way nobody stays together anymore these days.”

That was my thought process behind this song, it tells a story in 3 stages.
1. Fight: arguments, push and shove, a battle, a cycle of anger
2. Fix: It’s tiring, you fix and make up, try to be better and break the cycle
3. Stay: even after all of the worst, you still stay. You’re both broken, but you can’t stop.

Eventually the story concludes with an open ending, “We can finally have peace and no more wars  
We won’t have to fight, fix then stay.”
