CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate Change
When she said we were over
November seemed so much colder
Her words left me hurt and freezin’
There was no time for grievin’
I had to leave this heartless city
Before I was snowed in with self pity
chorus:
Now I'm ready for a Climate Change
Where rum punch pleasures and warmer weather
Will get me to the place called “Forget Her”
Yeah, it's time for a climate change
I followed the snowbirds South
Migrating on their winter route
Leaving her behind is fine with me
Now I only have myself to please
So I traveled through the Georgia Pines
And drove until I crossed the sunshine state line
chorus-
bridge:
Ran out of road looking for the answer
Wound up in the Florida Keys
Happiness comes in many flavors
I’m taking the one with sand and sea
chorus-
Now I’ve found my Climate Change
With rum soaked pleasures and warmer weather
Since I got here and finally forgot her
I found my Climate Change
I've made a delightful hot tropical...
Can’t remember what’s her name, Climate Change

THE PAINT'S ALREADY DRY
THE PAINT’S ALREADY DRY
(Bob Clay - Tom Adamson)
You say my love’s been good for you
But you can’t love me back
Telling me time will heal all aches
Soon my future won’t be so black.
To all your words of consolation
I haven’t bothered to reply
Don’t try to paint a pretty picture
The paint’s already dry.
You say someday I’ll find another
Who will love me in return
She’ll bring me blue skies every day
All the happiness I deserve
You wrapped it up in a pretty bow
But I’m not gonna buy
Don’t try to paint a pretty picture
The paint’s already dry.
Thanks for that encouraging speech
How it hurts you more than me
I went out on a limb for you
And you chopped down the tree.
This ain’t quite how I pictured it
My heart’s quicker than my eye
Don’t try to paint a pretty picture
The paint’s already dry.

BAD BABY BAD
BAD BABY BAD
(Julie Ferris - Robert Clay)
I told you what would happen if you broke my heart again
Did you think I was fooling, or maybe whistling in the wind?Caught you in the cookie jar, a sweet thing in your hand
Now mine is waving farewell to my misbehavin’ man.
chorus: You(‘ve) been bad baby bad
I’m leaving like I said I would.
You(‘ve) been bad baby bad
And its goodbye boy for good.
You said that she meant nothing, all you did was have a fling
You can give that fast talk up, I don’t believe there’s such a thing.
I could scold you like before, and treat you like a child
But that won’t slow down the feet of a grown man runnin’ wild.
chorus
bridge: I love you, but I’m all done - being naive.
I can’t stay with your cheatin’ ways,
Its punishment to me.

THE CHURCH OF COME ON IN
THE CHURCH OF “COME ON IN”
Thurston-Lindsey-Clay
It used to be I could be found each Sunday in a suit, with the same folks I meet with every week.
Then one Sabbath morning, I started quite a ruckus, when I raised my hand and asked if I could speak.
I said, "Hey we like to talk a lot in our four walls sitting here, and the lessons in the Good Book are the best,
But there's a church on every corner, and not everyone feels welcomed,
Why don't we take The Word and share it with the rest?
(CHORUS) Now we meet, yes we meet, on Sunday mornings,
In the diner down on Broadway Avenue,
And if you see us there and feel the call, pull up a stool, we welcome all,
At the Church of Come On In, there's room for you.
There's not a tall church steeple, just a blinking neon sign saying "World's Best Cup of Coffee, Come On In"
No altar, just a counter, not a church pew can be found, and hymnals where the menus’ always been.
We’ll pass around an offering plate, so be sure to leave a tip
‘cause the food is good and the waitresses work hard
There's a six string playing gospel songs, the ones that we all know, so anyone who sings is a member of the choir.
(CHORUS)
bridge:
We'll talk about the Carpenter, we'll talk about the Garden,
And we’ll talk about how bad your week has been,
We'll pray for you if you need us to, your first cup's on the house,
And next time when we meet, please bring a friend.
(CHORUS)

THE ONLY GIRL IN TOWN
THE ONLY GIRL IN TOWN
(Kent Newsome - Robert Clay)
chorus: She’s not the only girl in town
She’s just the only one I want.
I know she’s not the only girl around
But she might as well be
She’s the only girl for me.
I stood in the rain
The night she said goodbye.
I called out her name
But she never came outside.
I was drowning in a flood of tears.
chorus
instrumental 1/2 chorus
Yes I was a fool,
A fast train on the track.
There’ve been other girls
But now I want her back.
I wish we could start over again.

IF IT HADN'T FELT LIKE RAIN
"It If Hadn't Felt Like Rain"
(S. Thurston/S. Williams/R. Clay)
Distant thunder chased her 'cross the driveway,
She rolled up his windows as lightning struck.
In the flash she saw a corner of a letter
Hidden ‘neath the floormat of his truck.
Cold and steady rain beat on his windshield,
Another woman's words beat on her heart
If it hadn't felt like rain, if she hadn't heard the thunder
She'd have never seen the danger of the dark cloud she was under.
It’s not like she’d gone searching for the trouble that she'd found
She'd be inside and dry, but living a lie, if it hadn't felt like rain.
He said, "There's no excuse I can give you,
I'm sorry and I know I was wrong.
The truth is, I didn't think it mattered,
We've been under storm clouds for so long
I swear I hear the sound of distant thunder
In every conversation that we had...."
If it hadn't felt like rain, if he hadn't heard the thunder,
He'd have never felt like drowning in the arms that pulled him under.
He'd have never gone out searching for the trouble that he found,
At the wrong time and place, in another’s embrace, if it hadn't felt like rain.
Wind and rain can wash away delusions
Honesty will ride out any storm.
If it hadn't felt like rain, if they hadn't heard the thunder
She'd have never left the safety of the illusions she lived under.
He'd have never found his way home without the frightening flash of light,
They would never have found, higher ground, if it hadn't felt like rain.

THE SOUL OF THE SOUTH
The Soul of the South
(Bob Clay, Johnny McDonald, Rick Stanley and Donna Ulisse)
Wind in the tall pines, cry’s high and long
Rain on a tin roof, beats out a sad song
A coal train is whining like it’s gonna give out
It sure can sound lonesome in the soul of the south
Polk salad and berries, bitter and wild
Wheat fields and sweet corn, roll on for miles
Buttermilk biscuits, will melt in your mouth
That’s just a taste of the soul of the south
Moonlight cuts a good shine
Magnolias bloom out so fair
Talkin’ still take its sweet time
Sundays are quiet like prayer
There’s something sacred about
Life in the soul of the south
Big wooden porches, old rocking chairs
Where folks can still drop in and find someone there
With a smile and a warm hug so there’s no room for doubt
A heart’s always welcome in the soul of the south

PATTI JEAN
Patti Jean
(Bob Clay and Julie Ferris)
I gotta ask her to dance or I’ll bite my nails to the quick
She moves like melting butter in a bowl of hot grits
Ocean Drive is poppin’
Her hips are rockin’
Patti Jean
I could hit Peaches Corner for a catfish sandwich and drink
But what I’m in the mood for is all dressed up in pink
I could dance the Grand Strand
Holding her hand
Patti Jean
I've got the sun, sand, surf and sea
But she's all I’ll ever need
She's the queen of Myrtle Beach
Patti Jean
We’d do the Freaky Tiki, stop at Fat Harold’s for awhile
Her fav’rite band is the Tams, and shaggin’ is her style
Nights are for romancin’
Oh we should be dancin’
Patti Jean.

fade:
High tide, low tide

THE TOUCH OF HER MAN
THE TOUCH OF HER MAN
(Julie Ferris - Robert Clay)
My woman wears many faces
They’re part of what makes her complete.
The world is tough
Sometimes her best ain’t enough.
When it drains her, what she says she needs... (is)
chorus:
The touch of her man
Who loves her as she is.
And who won’t demand
Anymore than she can give.
When she wants to surrender
Be herself while she can.
She needs the touch of her man.
We’re working hard for the future
We want more than both ends to meet.
She’s got the drive
To keep our dreams alive
And what lifts her, when she feels defeat... (is)
chorus
Each woman needs something different
To help her find strength in her life.
Some search within
Some reach out to a friend
Yet my woman, says she’s satisfied... (with)

MY BROKEN HEART IS LIKE A NEON SIGN
MY BROKEN HEART IS LIKE A NEON SIGN
(Julie Ferris - Robert Clay)
He left me and it hurt, now everywhere I go
Some Mr. Right wants to follow me home
The shoulders of my friends are crowding me out.
Oh why can’t they leave me alone?
chorus:
My broken heart is like a neon sign
Blinking “Welcome everyone” to my hard time.
Turn on the blues, there’s no privacy.
My broken heart is like a neon sign.
My family hangs around, they all talk in cliches
They sigh and say I’ll find someone else.
The gossip of the day is I’ve lost one more.
Why can’t they leave me by myself?
chorus
bridge: My pain is on display
Like the special of the day.
What should only be my business
Now has ev’rybody in this.

BOUND AND DETERMINED
BOUND AND DETERMINED
(Kent Newsome-Bob Clay)
I’ve got lots of new hobbies
To help me spend the time
That I’ve got on my hands.
Ever since you left me
For your other man.
I’ve even made some new friends
And much to my surprise
It wasn’t hard to do.
None of my new friends
Ask me about you.
Chorus: It’s bound to be a little tough
But I’m determined to make it through
I’m bound and determined
One thing is for certain
I’m bound and determined
To get over you.
I found a new place to live
In an old neighborhood
Where you’d never go.
I can act happy there
And no one will know.
bridge: I ran into your mama
Just the other day.
She told me I looked kinda sad.
I told her not to worry
‘Cause I was okay.
Good sometimes comes from the bad.

HEAVEN HILL
HEAVEN HILL
(Julie Ferris - Robert Clay)
The bourbon business boomed today
Up on Heaven Hill.
The daddy of all fires
Burned the factory and the stills.
Big flaming barrels of whiskey
Shot up in the air
No one really knows for sure
They still might be there.
Life is sorry in Kentucky
Not a drop of booze around
It ricocheted to Heaven
When Heaven Hill went down.
One hundred crying firemen
Fought the blaze all night
Hell ain’t half as hot as when
Mash tanks full ignite.
Trailing lines of red hot bourbon
Flowed into the creeks
That ninety proof white lightning
Won’t burn off for weeks.
chorus
Folks raised their glass in Bardstown
Watching Heaven melt.
The sky rained Evan Williams whiskey
And they all got a belt.

PRAYERS (CAN YOU HEAR ME NOW?)
PRAYERS
(Can You Hear Me Now?)
The coffee's gotten bitter and the TV sets are off,
And the candy stripers closed the gift shop down.
A mother sits and holds a teddy bear
In the early morning silence, she offers up a prayer
CHORUS:
God, can you hear me now
All night there was a crowd
And people crying out
So many here who needed You
I tried to feel you near me
Finally it’s quiet, God can you hear me now?
Still shaken from the sound of ripping metal and the crash
And the look of panic in his girlfriend’s eyes
He stands outside the door to Urgent Care
In the early morning silence, he offers up a prayer
(CHORUS)
Behind a faded curtain next to a narrow cot
An old man sits and holds her trembling hand
They’ve had more than fifty years to share
In the early morning silence, he offers up a prayer
(CHORUS)

I'M LISTENING NOW
I’m Listening Now
(Bob Clay/Tim Barber)
I stumbled down a broken path without a rendezvous
All the time You were there for me, I never took the cue
I turned a deaf ear to You because I didn’t want to hear how
Precious Jesus, I’m listening now.
I closed my eyes and cried out when I was in despair
A faithless flood drowned my heart, my sins led me nowhere
Please take me in Your lifeboat, lift me over the bow
Precious Jesus, I’m listening now.
All my life I tried to cope, I barely got by
My hopelessness has turned to hope, now I know why
Now my fears are behind me, it’s like a brand new day
With Your words to guide me, I can find my way
I’ll always trust in Your love, this is my solemn vow
Precious Jesus, I’m listening now.

THE LAW OF BEVERAGES AND HAPPY NEVER AFTER
“THE LAW OF BEVERAGES AND HAPPY NEVER AFTER”
(Bob Clay)
I’m listening to a three chord symphony on the jukebox
With a buzz big enough to set off car alarms across the street
I examine the wreckage of my life through a shot glass
I’ve chained myself to a whiskey soaked memory
I’ve got yesterday, today and tomorrow all in the same room
Tellin’ me that sorrow has over one hundred different shades
I’m not reliving my drunken past, I’m doin’ it one better
I’d be a genius if I had learned from my mistakes
ch: Some might say I’m doomed with self-delusion
But I’m bone deep in self-assurance
This ain’t no common disaster
It’s the Law of Beverages and Happy Never After
Instead of finding answers, I end up with more questions
Not once in thirty years have I ever been misled
Nothing offers more solace than a glass of brown liquor on ice
My graveyard epitaph will read: I should be dead.

A SLOW WALTZ FOR NOW
A SLOW WALTZ FOR NOW
(Kent Newsome - Robert Clay)
There ain’t much to do
Around here these days
The dance hall closed down
When the kids moved away.
But I can still dance with
The prettiest girl in town
If you’ll turn the radio on.
chorus: It’s Saturday night
Let me dance you around.
A two step for then
A slow waltz for now.
We built a good life
With our sweat and tears
Our love is still strong
After forty long years.
We don’t get around
The way we used to.
But I’m happy
Just dancing with you.
chorus
instrumental verse
bridge: They say you can tell a lot about a man
by looking into the eyes of his wife.
If that’s the truth, then I’d have to say
That I did alright.... We did alright.

THE OTHER WOMAN
THE OTHER WOMAN
(Julie Ferris - Robert Clay)
She walked in, to our favorite cafe
Your nervous smile told me she was the one.
Your affair - Oh it almost broke us up
When she walked by, clearly she was stunned.
chorus: As she turned and looked back
I almost had to laugh.
At that very moment
I was the other woman.
She sat down, I watched her cross her legs
I pictured them out running ‘round with you.
So that’s her - Heartache finally had a face
I’d bet my wedding ring, she thought that too.
- chorus
As she left, I knew just how she felt.
The pain of losing you was the pain I lived.
I forgave the mistake you made with her
That took more love than she could ever give.

SPARK YOUR HEART (BALLAD)
SPARK YOUR HEART
(Bob Clay)
Its been awhile since you felt the flame
Your passion has cooled and left Love to blame
Please let me help you make an honest start
Give me a chance, let me spark your heart.
It seems that someone threw your love away
Shattered your feelings, left you dismayed.
So now you’re afraid to let down your guard.
Give me a chance, let me spark your heart.
Yes, my love is real, let me spark your heart.
bridge: There’s no need to be lonely
because of the past.
A simple spark of passion
will ignite a Love that lasts.
Someone so pretty shouldn’t feel so sad
Love has always been more good than bad.
A lesson learned has made you play it smart.
But give me a chance and let me spark your heart.
Yes, my love is true, so let me spark your heart.
