Private Sessions let you meet one-on-one with a SongU mentor for personalized song feedback, career guidance, demo feedback, publishing advice, sync strategy, co-writing discussion, or other songwriting and music business questions.

Frequently Asked Questions About Private Sessions

Private Sessions let you meet one-on-one with a SongU mentor in a private online e-Classroom.

Depending on the mentor and session type, you may use the session for song feedback, lyric feedback, demo or production feedback, career guidance, publishing questions, sync or pitching strategy, artist development, co-writing discussion, or other songwriting and music business topics.

Most Private Sessions are 30 or 60 minutes. Some mentors may also offer longer custom sessions, such as co-writing or special project sessions, by arrangement.

Choose a mentor from the Private Sessions page, review their specialties, availability, and cost, then submit a Private Session request.

Scheduling depends on both your availability and the mentor’s availability. Please give the mentor enough advance notice whenever possible, especially if you need a specific day or time.

Common uses include song feedback, lyric feedback, melody feedback, demo or production feedback, publishing questions, sync and film/TV strategy, pitch preparation, career direction, artist development, vocal performance, social media, networking, goal setting, motivation, and special project advice.

The best approach is to choose a mentor whose specialties match your goal and include a clear note about what you would like to cover.
Go to your Private Sessions activity area and look under upcoming sessions. Click the link to enter the session.

The e-Classroom normally opens 15 minutes before the scheduled start time. Before that, the room may not be available yet.

Private Sessions are generally recorded so you can review the session afterward. Your mentor should start the recording when you enter the session, but it is helpful to remind them to click record.

The recording/transcript is usually posted within about 24 hours after the session and can be found in your Private Sessions activity area.
To reschedule, cancel your current session first and then submit a new Private Session request.

Please provide at least 12 hours’ notice by using the cancellation link in your Private Sessions activity area. The mentor will be notified automatically, and your SongU credits will be refunded to your account.

Cancellations with less than 12 hours’ notice must be handled through Support. Refunds can only be guaranteed with at least 12 hours’ notice.

Yes. If you are asking a mentor to give feedback on a song that used AI in any way, please disclose that clearly before or during the session.

For example, let the mentor know whether AI was used for lyrics, melody/music, demo production, vocals, arrangement, or brainstorming. This helps the mentor give appropriate feedback and avoid confusion about what is human-written versus AI-generated.

A simple disclosure might be:

Lyrics: I wrote the lyrics myself.
Music/Melody: I wrote the melody myself.
Demo: I used Suno to create the demo/production.

Private Sessions take place in a private audio/video e-Classroom. You can enter from your Private Sessions activity area when the room opens.

If you cannot be at your computer or have technical trouble, you may also be able to phone into the session using the call-in information provided for your meeting.
Yes. SongU members outside the United States can book Private Sessions. Scheduling is flexible and depends on both your availability and the mentor’s availability.

Many mentors offer daytime, evening, or weekend availability. Session times are generally handled in Eastern Time, so be sure to convert the time carefully for your location.
For Private Sessions, your mentor receives a special link to access the songs in your Song Locker.

Before your session, make sure the song or songs you want to discuss are already in your Song Locker and that the MP3, lyric, writers, and any notes are up to date. This helps the mentor quickly find the correct material during your session.

Transcripts remain available for 7 days after the session, so we recommend downloading a copy for your own records before it expires.

Usually, yes, but the number of songs you can cover depends on the session length and the depth of feedback you want.

For detailed feedback, one song may take most or all of a 30-minute session. A 60-minute session may allow time for more than one song or for a deeper discussion. If you want to cover several songs, tell the mentor your priorities so they can use the time effectively.
Some mentors may offer co-writing or special project sessions by arrangement, but this depends on the mentor, availability, session length, and the nature of the project.

If you are interested in co-writing, check the mentor’s profile and availability, then explain what you have in mind when you request the session. A longer custom session may be needed.

You only need the same basic equipment you would use for an online meeting: a computer, tablet, or phone with an internet connection, plus a way to hear and speak.

The first time you enter the e-Classroom, your system may check whether anything needs to be installed or updated.

In many cases, you can join through your browser or Webex app. For best results, use an updated browser and allow enough time before your session to handle any prompts or updates.

A microphone or headset is strongly recommended because it makes the session feel more natural and interactive.

A webcam is optional, but it can make the one-on-one conversation easier. If you do not have a microphone or have audio problems, you can use the call-in information for the session.
Choppy audio or video is often caused by a slow or unstable internet connection, weak Wi-Fi, or too many programs running at the same time.

Before entering the session, close unnecessary programs such as email, Word, Skype, streaming apps, or extra browser tabs. If possible, move closer to your Wi-Fi router or use a wired internet connection. If the problem continues, use the phone call-in option for audio.
