This Valentine's season, let creativity strike like Cupid's arrow in the Cowriting-Cupid Challenge! Forget romance - this is all about finding your perfect creative match with a new cowriter. Whether you're a lyricist searching for a music collaborator, a musician looking for a lyricist, or a songwriter seeking to network and find new inspiration with a cowriter, here's your opportunity to connect.
Here's how to participate:
1) Set Up Your Member Website. If you haven't already, please complete your Member Website by clicking the My Website link under the Song Locker menu. Your website is how you will showcase who you are as a songwriter. Note, on your website, display only songs or lyrics you want to share publicly for other members to see. Also, copy your personal website link (e.g., www.songu.com/members/SaraLight)
2) Submit ONE Song or Lyric to This Playlist. Share one song or lyric from your Song Locker to represent you. It can be either a complete song (music + lyrics), a lyric-only, or a music track-only. Multiple submissions will be deleted.
3) Include a Note With Your Submission. Use the "Optional Note for Pitch Guest" area as your advertisement. Let us know what you're seeking in a cowriter. Also, please let us know your contribution to the song. For example, a) I wrote this song's music/lyric alone; b) I cowrote this song providing mainly the lyrics; c) I cowrote this song providing mainly the music; d) My collaborator and I contributed equally to the lyrics and music of this song. Additionally, you must disclose what, if any, portion of the song or lyrics are AI-generated.
4) Where to Listen to Each Other's Songs. The Playlist listening page link will be available from February 14th - 28th on the member homepage "Campus News and Happenings area." Submissions can continue through the end of the month and will be updated live as they are submitted. So, check back frequently.
5) Find Your Match. If you are interested in a cowrite connection, find more information by searching for their Member Website by name in Activity > Find Cowriters Contact them through their website. There is a contact icon next to each name on the playlist. Both parties must agree about trying to cowrite a song together for this to be a connection. Any participant can just say, "No." SongU cannot guarantee that the Cowriting Cupid will strike a creative chord.
If You Make a Match and Find a Cowriter, Keep Reading Below
Follow-Up and Terms. If you match with someone, it's your responsibility to figure out how to communicate with each other (e.g., email, text, etc.) and when and where to collaborate. We suggest using an online meeting platform. Remember, that cowriting is a little like a blind date. The creative connection may or may not gel. A song may or may not be in the stars. Often, it's good to think of the first song you cowrite as the first pancake in the batch - it may not be your best, and you may have to throw it out and make a new one.

What to Submit: Musically, Dolly wants songs with Pop elements, songs that are pop-leaning or lend themselves to a pop production. Any tempo. Lyrically, "don't look back"! Dolly is being pitched way too many songs that are "backward looking" and covering the same predictable ground. These are songs about where Dolly came from, how she got from there to here, what she wears, what she likes, how she looks, etc. Songs like this will not work. Relevant songs for this project should be in the present and/or forward-looking. Songs can, in some way, encapsulate the richness of her legacy and who Dolly is at her core, allude to her tradition of inclusiveness and acceptance, and can even nuance her Christianity. However, she doesn't want to browbeat anyone, so to speak, with her faith. Songs that inspire, have strong emotional elements, and resonate with the listener are also great contenders. Music Publisher who will be acting in the capacity of publishing administrator only. Seeking Broadcast Quality original songs and tracks. Descriptions:
a) Clean, positive, happy, fun, lighthearted, uplifting family-oriented songs (nothing sad or too slow) of any genre including instrumentals to be played on "overhead radio" in malls, stores, airports, convention centers and restaurants.
b) Also, songs with genres and styles typically played in bars, nightclubs, lounges, casinos, cruise ships etc. Nothing too loud too fast or too rock, lyrics must be clean, no swearing or foul language, vocals must be English language.
Please read TERMS before submitting: "If I express interest in your song, I would be administering the publishing only. If your song is co-written all writers must agree to these terms: You will keep your publishing and your master rights. Your songs will not be distributed for sync opportunities or distributed for any internet royalties, compilation CD's, Spotify etc. These opportunities are non-exclusive DIRECT LICENSING which means royalties will be paid directly to my account in a folder in your name and you will receive 50% of the direct licensing royalties. There are NO performance royalties involved with this type of licensing (to clarify: P.R.O's do not monitor "overhead radio" and it does not generate performance income). Note however, that because I personally co-publish with this direct licensing company, if your song is accepted the title will automatically be listed in my P.R.O. but it will be RE-TITLED for this specific license.
