    A SIMPLE SONG

A Simple Song Phil Schneider (ASCAP) © 2007 Dm A7 Dm 1. A song of unrequited love sung to a simple melody, A7 Dm Seductive words of tenderness that set her passions free. Gm7 Dm A smile, a touch, a caress; the way it made her feel. A7 Dm The things it made her do that let her think that love was real. 2. The country walks in Spring; as arm in arm they’d go. The dancing until dawn as they held each other close. They’d dine by candle light, faces aglow with flame. Intoxicating wine and breath. Who would suspect this love to wane? Gm7 C7 F Bridge: But the verses turned to sadness; it became a song she could not bear. Gm7 C7 A7 Unanswered calls, missed rendezvous, long nights filled with tears. 3. A lonely bridge at night; a lover in the rain. She steps up to the rail, never to love again. The water swirls below; it beckons through the rain. It was just a foolish song to cause her all this pain.

Country Rain Phil Schneider (ASCAP) © 2011 Clouds roll in on a hot summer day The breeze picks up and drives the heat away. Fat heavy drops fall from the leaves; Wash away the dust, makes the air smell clean. Somehow in the city it’s not the same As the way it feels in a gentle country rain. If it rains hard enough you can knock off work. A day now an’ then sure don’t hurt. Sittin’ on the porch sippin’ one or two Dreamin’ ‘bout the things you’ll never do. Somehow in the city it’s not the same As the way it feels in a gentle country rain. Windows covered in liquid lace Makes the world seem like a different place. Or makin’ love in the meadow, get a little wet, Adds spice to life you can sure bet. Somehow in the city it’s not the same As the way it feels in a gentle country rain.

The Oak Upon the Hill Phil Schneider, ASCAP © 2011 Grandpa fell in battle somewhere over there. Grandma had him laid to rest up there on the hill. When her time came she was placed beside him in that yellow clay. An acorn grew up between them up there on that glade. Chorus: From (that) (a) tiny acorn a mighty oak did grow Nourished in the soil by spring rains and winter snow. The roots entwine their bodies as they rest in the deep And, when’er the winds do blow, gently rock them in their sleep. Daddy couldn’t bring himself to cut that sapling down. There, between his pa and ma, it seemed ‘twas sacred ground. I grew up seeing that lone oak upon that hill And that’s where I placed him. His last wish I did fulfill. (chorus) And as I dropped that hand of dirt when we placed mama in her tomb, I felt a bit of comfort amidst the sorrow and the gloom. I have no fear of that ground when I’m placed amongst them there; I’ll be home with my family again ‘neath that oak upon the hill. (Final chorus): From a tiny acorn a mighty oak did grow, Nourished in the soil by spring rains and winter snow. The roots will entwine us as we rest in the deep, And when’er the winds do blow, gently rock us in our sleep.

Cruisin' Down to the Yucatan by Phil Schneider (ASCAP) (c) Copyright 2005 1. I hitch-hiked down as far as Marathon with my banjo slung o'er my back. I was slammin' down shots and jalapeno pops in a Boot Key bar called the Grouper Shack. I met this guy an' his pretty little wife; he said they need to hire a hand. They was headin' down to Mexico; I could party with them when they reached Yucatan. Chorus: Crusin' down to the Yucatan with the trade winds fillin' the sails. Standin' my watch with a beer in my hand an' watchin' the captain's wife Layin' bare by the rail. 2. He had a forty foot sloop all ready to go; he assured me it would be lots of fun. The pay wasn't great but I liked his wife's tan so I threw back a shot an' said, "sign me on!" Our second day out a squall line moved in; the weather got bad pretty fast. The captain got scared; he headed for land but instead of turnin' right he took a hard left. (Chorus) 3. We were on a broad reach off a Cuban beach when patrol boats hove into view. The captain an' his wife were both Canadian; they were let go, but me? I was screwed. They stuck me in a cell; fed me rice an' beans. The treatment it wasn't the best. But, as a good-will gesture by the Castro Regime, I was extradited back to the U. S. (Chorus) (+) Coda: Now, Key West don't have no Federal detention so they stuck me in Monroe County Jail. I have learned how to cope, not drop my soap, and check the captain's passport before I set sail. Cruisin' down to the Yucatan with the trade winds fillin' the sails. Standin' my watch with a beer in my hand an' watchin' the captains's wife, No tan lines in sight, Watchin' the captain's wife layin' bare by the rail.

The Puppy Song By Phil Schneider (ASCAP) (c) 2005 1. When I was a kid I saw tha girl next door playin'' in her back yard. She had two little dogs on a leash an'' they was playin'' mighty hard. Those dogs wuz so cute; they looked so fine. I wished that one of those puppies was mine. So I walked on over and this is what I said to her: Chorus: You gotta nice pair of puppies; I''ll bet it''s fun to play with them! I like the way they jump up and down; they so soft and smooth and round. Cute little noses stickin'' outta they face, They wiggle an'' jiggle; flop all over the place. You gotta nice pair of puppies; would you let me play with them? 2. My father took me to a dog show to teach me ''bout all tha diff''rent breeds. They was collies, an'' spaniels, an'' terriers, and such, just about any kinda dog you could see. A lady with a pair of Pomeranians is really what caught my eye. So, I walked on over an'' this is what I said to her: (Chorus) 3. Now there comes a time in every man''s life when he needs to watch what he say. Let me tell you ''bout what happened to me, why, just tha other day. I was in a bar, a kinda a swanky place; they was carpet and crystal all over da place, When I saw this girl, and I knew right then she was tha kinda girl I''d like to know. 4. She had long dark hair hangin'' down her back and the prettiest blue eyes. She really filled out that sequined dress in a way that''d make most men sigh. I had to meet her any way I could. I walked right over to her and there I stood. Now, I know it wasn''t really what I intended to say but this is what I said to her: (Chorus)

I should-a gone home but I was in a deep funk, So, I decided to stop some place so I could get drunk. I headed over towards Duval. It was just a few blocks to all The lights and people and a lot of bars. I stopped at the corner to wait for some cars. As I stood there waitin’ it started to pour. “That’s great!” I said and asked, “What more?” And as if Mother Nature was tryin’ to explain, I spied a dead chicken, in the gutter, in the rain. Chorus: Sometimes life serves up peaches and cream; Sometimes the answers to all of your dreams. Sometimes oysters, caviar and French champagne; Or, sometimes, just a dead chicken, in the gutter, in the rain! A cop rolled up and I heard Him ask what I had done to that sacred bird. I told I had an alibi. He didn’t believe me; said it was a lie. I was taken in but was able to make bail. Now I really needed my favorite cocktail. As I stood at the bar I had to contemplate How my life had been effected by that dead bird’s fate. I’d lost my "chick" and to boot Two weeks pay. That’ll be hard to re-"coop". Headin’ for Atlanta with tomatoes as my load, Then a turn-around for Tampa with irrigation hose. Suddenly I’m hit with an awful ghastly light Comin’ out the sky. It gave me quite a fright. I think it’s a helicopter, but there isn’t any sound. Ahead and back the road is clear; there’s no one else a-round. (Refrain) Light in tha sky, light in tha sky, why did I run into that light in tha sky? Tha next thing I know two hours has passed. My tractor’s on the shoulder idlin’ in tha grass. I’ve got an uneasy feelin’ I’ve been through somethin’ strange; Vague pieces of memory bouncin’ round inside my brain. (Refrain) I make it to tha depot ‘bout four hours late. Down at Woody’s Phil Schneider, ASCAP © 2011 They line-dance in the sawdust down at Woody’s. Or, you can dance up close with your gal down at Woody’s. Then somebody has to start a fight; it happens almost every night! That’s why it’s always crowded down at Woody’s. The music’s always fine down at Woody’s. You can hear those guitars whine down at Woody’s. The band is always right and they’re usually pretty tight. You can have a mighty good time down at Woody’s. They don’t have fancy drinks down at Woody’s. If you ask for one they’ll all laugh down at Woody’s. Plain ole whiskey and beer is all they serve in there. Don’t be ordering any French wine down at Woody’s. You gotta get outta town to get to Woody’s. It’s only ‘bout five miles out to Woody’s. At the fork just hang right an’ soon it’ll be in sight. Come on out an’ I’ll see you down at Woody’s.

Livin’ My Life As a Cowboy Phil Schneider (ASCAP) © 2011 When I was young I used to dream about livin’ my life as a cowboy, Ridin’ an’ ropin’, cussin’ an’ smokin’, wear jingly spurs an’ say, “How-dy”. I’d pick out my horse from the ramuda. Train him my-self so I know he’ll be good. Teach him some tricks to impress other people, work cattle like a good pony should. But a cowboy’s life is a lonely life, ridin’ the range on his pony. He works in the saddle from mornin’ ‘til dusk. A lot more chores than there’s money. An’ it’s cold in the winter an’ hot in the summer. The sweat an’ dust makes his neck itch. No one ever got rich by bein’ a cowboy an’ I guess that’s no way to live. I’d ride into town of a Saturday evenin’; drink at the saloon an’ flirt with the girls. Take one down to the Bijoux; see the movin’ picture, or to a dance an’ give her a whirl.

Every Step Of The Way Phil Schneider (ASCAP) (c) 2013 1. Sometimes I feel forgotten, abandoned, alone; Seems I have to face the world, face it on my own. When my mind is troubled it's hard to be aware There's someone with me every step of the way. 2. As the sailor on the sea has only stars by which to steer, My journey may be frightening, my destination unclear. But there's this voice deep inside; helps to guide me on, And I know it will be with me every step of the way. (Bridge) A voice bringing brightness to the darkest day; Courage to continue with hope to light the way! 3. A voice is inside us; helps us carry on, Soothes our restless spirit when we think all hope is gone. Just listen, you can hear and came to rely It will be with you always every step of the way. 4. So, if you feel forgotten. abandoned, alone, Seems you have to face the world, face it on your own. Don't let your mind be troubled; just be aware There is someone with you always every step of the way.

The Dream Phil Schneider (ASCAP), Randall Hughes (SESAC) (c) 2014 The yellow sun bathed her corn-silk hair. Breez-es teased 'round her lemon dress. Gleaming eyes of green seemed a promised offer-ing: Her face, her smile, her golden body. I had a dream and that is all it was In that space between slumber and reality. There really was no way I could delay the day, But her arms held me in her sweet embrace. When she turned away I knew there was nothing I could do; I can't go back and start it over. When I awoke this song was in my mind Hinting promises for the day. But they turned into a lie. She never said goodbye. She released my hand and just slipped away.

And just like hugging a little puppy I am so very lucky To have you for a friend! I'll let you find me when we play run and hide, You can make me feel better when I cry. If you try to kiss me I'll let you. We can have a lemonade stand; I'll squeeze the lemons and you can Stir in the sugar. And, maybe some day, when we're grown we can have a home of our own. I'd like that; wouldn't you? Doo-un da doo-un, doo doo doo.

Mary Has A Little Lamb Phi Schneider (c) 2016 Mary has a little lamb, everybody knows. Though it may be out of style it still happens, I suppose. He follows her everyplace, where ever she might go. Doesn't care what others think; he loves Mary so. He would do anything to see his Mary smile. It's his heart's desire is to talk with her a while. And if he's lucky, perhaps to hold her hand. He is very happy to be Mary's little lamb. BRIDGE: When she speaks her voice is like a song. She is his melody as he follows her along. Sun rise is in her eyes; moonbeams jewel her hair. But does she know he 's there? Mary makes his heart beat as fast as his tail. He follows Mary over hill and over dale. Little lambs are sweet; little lambs are shy. Little lambs love little girls; there is no reason why.

Let's Change Our World Travis Hughes (SESAC) Phil Schneider (ASCAP) © 2017 Intro: Lately it seems we’re staying the same, clock ticking, routine remains. What if there’s something we have left to do? Let’s find out; look at life brand new. 1. And let's change our world with all do. Make life better for me and for you. Tomorrow we live with what we do today. Let's change our world, don't hesitate. 2. Everyone knows we reap what we sew. Let's plant a future, watch how it grows. The tomorrows we have left all start today. Change our direction; find a new way. (Bridge) Seems we are stuck heads in the sand. Time to get up together and stand. Look out, look up and face the sun. So much undone. 3.) Make one new thing better today. Start now; don’t wait. Tomorrow we live with what we do today. Let's change our world before it's too late.
